Zone 5B Chairperson - Lion Dean Schneider with his wife, Lion Glenda Schneider, and their six children.
Lion Dean hails from Maxwell, Texas, close to Lockhart, just south of Austin. The son of a lifelong Lion, PDG Leroy Schneider, he learned the value of service early in life following his father around District 2S-3 as Zone Chair and Texas Lions Camp Director. Following his father’s example, he entered the US Air Force upon graduation from Texas A&M and served as a research and development engineer over a 20-year career.
Upon retirement, he joined the Texas A&M Engineering Program as a program manager at the Texas A&M Center for Applied Technology. He went on to a regional director position in the national Smart Manufacturing Institute at UCLA and then as operations director and later executive director of the SecureAmerica Institute at the RELLIS campus. Failing at retirement for a second time, he is currently the Managing Director for Supplier Development at BlueForge Alliance, a non-profit national defense contractor performing integration services for the U.S. Navy’s Program Executive Office for Strategic Submarines.
A Lion for 13 years, Lion Dean has served as board director, vice president for service, membership, and leadership, and President of the College Station Noon Lions Club. He currently serves as the Zone Chair for District 2S-5, Zone 5B serving seven clubs in the Bryan, College Station, and Navasota area. He is a College Station Fun-For-All Playground Park Fellow, a Jack Wiech Fellow, and a Melvin Jones Fellow. He is also a Lions KidSight certified vision screener and has attended the USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum.
Before joining Lions, Lion Dean spend 15 years as an adult scout leader with BSA and served in many positions including Cubmaster, Committee Chair, Assistant Scoutmaster, and Scoutmaster. During his 8 years as scoutmaster, Lion Dean mentored 24 Scouts in earning Eagle, received the District Award of Merit, and was a James E. West Fellow.
Lion Dean has been recognized as a Texas A&M Regents Fellow and a Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station Center Fellow. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin specializing in robotics and reliability. He has an MS in Electrical Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University. Lion Dean and his Partner-in-Service Lion Glenda are the proud parents of 6 Aggies and have 8 grandchildren and were selected as the Parents of the Year for Texas A&M University in 2016.
